Our chapter Meetup group, Houston Real Food Nutrition, is hosting a meeting August 16th to discuss the research of Dr. Weston A. Price and the principles of traditional diets. See below for more information about time and location.
We will have a video about Dr. Price’s research followed by a slide show and discussion of the underlying characteristics of nourishing traditional diets.
What you will learn about traditional diets:
–What kinds of foods are necessary for a nutrient-dense diet
–What kinds of foods should be avoided for the best health
–Which nutrients are essential
The Last Organic Outpost is a hidden gem in the 5th ward of North Houston. As you drive into the small neighborhood there is nothing to prepare you as you turn into this 2 acre lot full of warm, healthy soil, budding plants, thriving bees and caring hands. Walking into this place is like walking into a different world leaving the hustle and bustle of the city on your heals, awaiting your return. But for at least a little while, you are a farmer. Caring for your crops, clearing weeds, tending to the bees, cleaning and organizing the property, and preparing for another harvest. You’re greeted with smiles and handshakes from Joe, the head farmer, and appreciation from all the other volunteers that keep this amazing place going.
Houston is lucky this year! The Weston A. Price Foundation (WAPF) has chosen Houston to be the location of one of their two regional conferences for 2014. The WAPF has one major international conference each year (last one was in Atlanta, November 2013) and two regional conferences. We don’t need to travel far to hear national speakers and learn more about eating traditional foods to promote good health.
Although there is much more to come, here is the information we have now about the program and the speakers.
Food Renegade is helping to raise funds for the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund.
By supporting the raffle, you will also benefit the FTCLDF.
When the FDA and other government officials raid a peace-loving Amish farmer’s home with guns drawn because he’s providing healthy, nourishing raw milk directly to consumers, who does that Amish farmer call?
Announcement from the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund:

Houston Real Food Nutrition, our new Meetup Group, had its first meeting Saturday, November 3, at the Great Oak School in Tomball, TX. We were glad to see how interested the attendees were in improving their health through nutrition. There were lots of questions and a very lively discussion of many topics, ranging from raw milk to fermented foods to dietary mineral absorption. The meeting featured a video overview about the nutrition research of Dr. Weston A. Price (from the Nourishing Our Children series) and a slide show summary of the principles of traditional diets. Dr. Price spent ten years traveling around the world to study the health and nutrition of people who were still eating their traditional diet. He wanted to know if they were healthy and what they were eating. He found a wide variety of diets that all included high levels of essential nutrients not found in the diets of ‘civilization.’ Read more (including more photos) at Real Food Houston.
We have created a Meetup Group for the Houston area named Houston Real Food Nutrition to help coordinate meetings and seminars about real food subjects. Membership is open to anyone interested in eating and preparing real healthy food, meeting others who share their interest, and learning more about how nutrition affects our health.
The first meeting is scheduled for 9 am, November 3, at the Great Oaks School in Tomball. The Nov. 3 presentation will include the research of Dr. Weston A. Price and the principles of traditional diets.
