WHO Rules Against Meat Labeling, the Secretive TPP, Texas Water Rights, and Activism Workshopnews from FARFA

FARFA_wilderness_logoNews from the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance:

As the weather starts to cool down, food and agriculture issues are heating up.

At the federal level, The World Trade Organization (WTO) has ruled that the United States’ mandatory country of origin labels (COOL) rules for meat and poultry are an improper trade barrier.  This international power play is a stark reminder of why we need to oppose the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement, which may be coming back in the lame duck session after the elections.  (And stay tuned for the latest news on food safety regulations, coming next week!)

WAPF Regional Wise Traditions Conference in Houston, March 29-30

WAPF 2013 DinnerHouston is lucky this year! The Weston A. Price Foundation (WAPF) has chosen Houston to be the location of one of their two regional conferences for 2014. The WAPF has one major international conference each year (last one was in Atlanta, November 2013) and two regional conferences. We don’t need to travel far to hear national speakers and learn more about eating traditional foods to promote good health.

The Houston Regional Wise Traditions Conference will be at the Houston Marriott South at Hobby Airport March 29-30, 2014.

Although there is much more to come, here is the information we have now about the program and the speakers.

Join us for the Farm and Food Leadership Conference

Announcement from the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance:

We hope you will join us for this year’s Farm & Food Leadership Conference on September 22-23 in Bastrop, Texas.

This is an exciting time, with local local and sustainable food  becoming a hot topic at both the state and national level. We have important opportunities to change the policies that govern our food system, but we need people – farmers, food producers, chefs, and consumers – who understand the issues and are willing to speak up.

Texas news from the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance

FARFA_logoNews update from the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance:

Cottage Foods Rule

The cottage foods bill is a wonderful, simple law that we succeeded in passing last session. It allows individuals to make certain low-risk foods (non-hazardous baked goods, canned jams and jellies, and dried herbs) in their home kitchens and sell the foods directly to consumers without being regulated by the local or state health departments. There are a few conditions: sales must be less than $50,000 per year, the sale must occur at the home, and no internet sales are allowed.
