Draft Proposal for the new 2015 Dietary Guidelines

Action Alert from the Weston A. Price Foundation: Draft Proposal for the new 2015 Dietary Guidelines

Deadline for comments April 8, 2015

The federal Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee has released its draft proposal for the new 2015 Dietary Guidelines, and they go even further than the previous ones in attacking nutritious foods like full-fat dairy, red meat, and any food with saturated fat.

The Dietary Guidelines form the basis of federal nutrition policy and food assistance programs, so the effects can be very far-reaching.

Save Our Farmers: Tell Congress to Oppose New Use of Toxic Herbicide

Action Alert from the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance:

Crop DustingWhat happens when the government approves new herbicide-resistant GMO crops?

The use of that herbicide skyrockets.

We’ve seen it happen with Roundup-resistant crops, and now we face a tidal wave of 2,4-D spraying. The impact would be inescapable. This toxic herbicide can volatilize and travel for miles, killing and stunting non-GMO crops with no way for the farmers to protect themselves.

In addition to destroying non-GMO crops, 2,4-D has also been linked to cancer, Parkinson’s disease, endocrine disruption, and reproductive problems.

Tell USDA “NO” to non-browning GMO apples – submit your comments online!

Action alert from the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance:

The biotech industry keeps promising to solve major problems, from world hunger to malnutrition. Instead, they’ve given us herbicide-resistant and pesticide-producing crops, increasing Americans’ exposure to toxic chemicals. And guess what’s the latest genetically engineered crop that’s heading for your plate? Apples that never turn brown.

Like all genetically engineered crops, these new apples have not been proven safe for human consumption. Even worse, they use a troubling new genetic engineering technique, which has even greater potential side effects for the environment and human health. The genetically modified

USDA Issues Final Animal ID Rule

FARFA_wilderness_logoNews from the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance:

The USDA has issued a final rule on Animal ID.  While we are still working on a complete analysis of the rule, USDA’s announcement identified several important changes that it made to the proposed rule, which make this final rule far less burdensome on family farmers, ranchers, and backyard poultry owners.

We want to say THANK YOU to each and every one of you who took the time to write comments on the proposed rule in response to our action alerts.  Your comments truly made a difference!  We didn’t get every change we pushed for, but we got most of them, thanks to your hard work and support.

Call Your Representative to Oppose the GMO Riders

An action alert from the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance:

On the heels of the “Monsanto rider” inserted into the House Agriculture Appropriations Bill a few weeks ago, the Biotech industry managed to insert several more damaging provisions into the House version of the Farm Bill.

Together, these GMO industry-promoting provisions override judicial review of GMO crops found to have been approved illegally, gut any real review by the USDA of new GMO crops, and create a forced backdoor approval of “Agent Orange” corn and other currently pending GMO crops. There is even a provision to establish, for the first time, a policy recognizing “allowable” levels of GMO contamination in our food.

Update: Farm Bill, the lawsuit against Monsanto, and more!

News from the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance:

This week has been an extremely busy one, with FARFA working hard to protect our farms and our food at every level.

Below are brief updates on the Farm Bill, the lawsuit against Monsanto, Animal ID, and Texas cottage foods.

Farm Bill News

Thank you for calling to support local livestock producers and small-scale processors! A portion of the Pingree Amendment was adopted by the Agriculture Committee. As adopted, the provision directs the USDA, in cooperation with processors and producers, to report within 12 months on what needs to be done to meet the needs of small-scale processors. The agency is also directed to develop a system for electronically approving labels. Although much less than originally proposed, this provision provides the first step towards addressing the barriers to small-scale meat processing.
